postheadericon Nephrogenic Diabetes Insipidus and Symptoms of Diabetes Insipidus

Diabetes Insipidus is a rare condition that occurs when the kidneys cannot conserve water as they filter toxins from the blood. As such, people with Diabetes Insipidus generally have a constant urge to urinate and frequently feel thirsty. This is not glucose-based Diabetes mellitus.

The Hypothalamus

In a normal body, a hormone called ADH (antidiuretic hormone) controls the amount of water that the kidneys release. ADH, also called vasopressin (VAS-oh-pres-in), is a hormone that is produced in the hypothalamus (HY-puh-thal-uh-muss) region of the brain. The pituitary (pee-TOO-ee-ter-ee) gland, which is located at the base of the brain, releases the ADH hormone in order to control the release of urine. However, when a person has Diabetes Insipidus (in-Sip-i-duh s), he or she does not have ADH (called central Diabetes Insipidus) or has kidneys that do not respond to ADH (called nephrogenic (NE-froj-e-nik) Diabetes Insipidus (in-SIP-i-duss)). As such, a patient will urinate frequently. The frequent loss of water causes the patient to be constantly thirsty.

Symptoms: Excessive urination and Extreme thirst

Diabetes Insipidus Causes

Central Diabetes Insipidus is almost always caused by damage to the brain in the pituitary gland or hypothalamus region, though birth defects can also cause the condition. The damage usually is the result of surgery, infection, abnormal growths, or head injuries. To reduce the cause by damage patient should take proper snacks for diabetics. Nephrogenic Diabetes Insipidus is often caused by medications that make it impossible for the kidneys to reabsorb water back into the bloodstream. The condition may also be inherited from the maternal side.

postheadericon The Advantages of Outsourcing Your Mental Health Billing

The health care industry has undergone some significant changes over recent years. A series of new administrative difficulties were brought about by the need to deal with complicated insurance forms and prepare insurance policy procedures. As a result, many practices choose to outsource their medical billing to independent professionals. Mental health practices are no exception to this rule.

When it comes to handling your mental health billing, you are presented with several options, the most common of which are as follows: you can try to do your mental health billing yourself, you can hire new staff to do that for you, or you can use one of the many mental health billing services available on the market. There are some advantages and disadvantages to each of these alternatives.

Doing your mental health billing yourself is cost-effective, but it can be very time consuming, and have a negative impact on the efficient running of your practice, including a reduced number of patients and many missed appointments. If you opt for hiring your own staff to handle your mental health billing, you will eventually find that this course of action is neither time nor cost-effective. Hiring new billing staff requires extra space, as well as extra costs with payroll and payroll taxes. On the other hand, outsourcing your billing to a mental health billing service company emerges as a very good option, as it equals efficiency, time-effectiveness and the opportunity to control your costs.

Immigration and the health care debate

Erickson Column: Immigration and the health care debate

You’ve likely read by now that immigration issues have become part of the national dialogue in the health care reform debate. The primary issue concerns who will benefit if a national plan is put in place. It’s not difficult to conclude that many health care reform advocates hoped that President Obama would deal with immigration first, and then tackle the equally explosive issue of national health care.

The reason is clear. Providing free medical care to illegal immigrants is just something that hasn’t won much support on Main Street. Without first resolving the immigration debate, many thought that health care reform could go down in flames because the public would simply not support illegal immigrants receiving free medical care. The solution: Pass reform laws that provide illegal immigrants with a lawful status and the health care concern becomes less of an issue.

However, as we’ve seen, it didn’t quite happen that way. The administration decided to roll up its sleeves and come out swinging on the health care issues first.

There has been some misunderstanding as to who will be afforded coverage if universal care is approved. In terms of proposed legislation, House bill, H.R. 3200, excludes from coverage those persons who are not legal residents of the United States. Section 246 of the bill provides:
